Last weekend our department put on the 24th Annual Children's Art Festival at Hillcrest Park. For those of you with children who have never been, you are totally missing out!! Its a totally free event for everyone. We've got tons of booths with different art projects, a bouncy house, a big rig area where kids can climb on trucks/tractors/etc. and even a sand~water~goop station for the little ones to play at. We give out free balloons to the kids and flowers to the parents, the kids can even enter into a raffle for free. I was working all day at the event, but my parents were great enough to bring Nakiah over to see me for a while.
She LOVED watching all the kids run around.
Mommy played in the goop with her and while she liked watching it in mommy's hand, she had no desire to touch it herself.
For those of you that don't know, goop is cornstarch and water.
This stuff is the weirdest thing. When its in the container (in this case a simming pool) it looks like a liquid. You stick your hand in it and it feels like a solid. If you squeeze it in your hand, it becomes hard and dry and it will crumble. When you open your fist, it begins to liquify and run through your fingers. Its pretty crazy and a huge hit with the kids!
After goop came sand. She wasn't big on putting her hands in the sand either.
After the goop/sand session we met up with Leah, James and Anna
And of course headed over to the bouncy house, per James' request
I thought Nakiah would freak out inside, but she loved it
She liked watching the kids and getting bounced around
Anna's face wasn't so happy when Leah pulled her out
Anna is just a petite little girl, but has NO fear.
She was off bouncing with the big kids the whole time inside
James hand a great time with the art projects
He made hand prints and got to choose what colors he wanted his fingers painted
He even got to paint a real fish for fish prints
After the bouncy house, I think Anna was over it.
We all had a blast!
